I’m from the other side of the ocean so I write dates in the right way!

01/08 – 1st August

Let’s start from the beginning: this is my first day in New York and I’m going to show how I came here. I’ll try to write a sort of diary of my presence in this city till I will come back to Italy.

First of all, let’s talk about flight: I bought an AerLingus flight with one stop at Dublin (Ireland). The flight was a booking for 2 real flights: Rome – Dublin and Dublin – New York.
Maybe you are asking yourself “What does it mean? Don’t all other flights with one or more stops be in fact more ‘real flights’?”. Yes, they are but it change the situation.
In this case the flight has a stop over in Dublin of more than 12 hours: arrival at Dublin at 22:50 and departure to New York at 10:45. So the night is in the middle of the wait: it means that you need to book an hotel and that the company (AerLingus in this case) don’t keep your baggage so you have to take it with you to the hotel (hostel o whatever…) and than re-check in the following morning for the next flight.
If between the two flights there’s not the night the company will keep for you the baggage usually.

For the night I booked the Holiday Inn Express Hotel near the airport because it has wireless internet free, shuttle bus free and it is cheap (and it offer also the breakfast…).
My only doubt was the shuttle bus, because my arrival time, but after waiting 20 minutes it arrived and took me to the hotel. It
I’ll write the shuttle bus timetable here for the future:

23:15 – 23:45 23:00 – 23:30
00:15 00:00

The arrival is in front of the Crown Plaza, just 100 meters far away from Holiday Inn Express Hotel. The hotel is fine for one night, expecially if you have the flight the morning after: they work with this kind of guests so the check in the night is very fast.

New day, new check in as I wrote before: going to the States means you have to compile paper, also if you have got a VISA. If you got a VISA you have to fill two papers.
Once passed the security controls in the gates there’s a place to pre-check all the stuff you usually make in US when arrive: it’s a sort of “border preclearance“. I don’t know if there are this kind of controls also in other airport than the irish one, but it is very useful this one.
And after all, the flight to New York. It tooks a page to prepare this flight but finally we arrived. Once took the baggage you would go to the city: I took the AirTrain. It seems free, but it costs 5 $ when you arrive to destination: in fact when you’re exiting the system asks the ticket. It’s a fair fee, but it is always 5$…

Ok, a taxi maybe could be more expensive, so let’s take the AirTrain + Subway…

I post che riguardano il viaggio saranno tutti in inglese. Almeno faccio pratica. 🙂
